This used to be a recipe of zoats, but has now been changed to oats because:
- Who can be arsed to grate courgette in the morning
- I don’t endorse “volume eating” to reduce your calorie intake
- Your bowl of oats is more nutritious with more oats instead of reducing oats and adding courgette
I like to vary the flavour of my oats to feature many different colours! Today I thought I would start with my absolute favourite flavour: cinnamon and cacao, for a delicious chocolaty breakfast that tastes like dessert.
Serves 1
Ingredients:
50g oats
100mL milk + 150mL water, or 250mL plant milk, or 250mL water
1 scant tsp cinnamon
1 rounded tsp raw cacao (can substitute cocoa powder)
Toppings of choice
What to do:
- Mix the oats, milk, water, and cinnamon in a bowl
- Leave overnight in the fridge for the oats to soak up the liquid
- Alternatively mix the ingredients in a pot and cook on medium heat for around five minutes until thick and creamy
- Finally when ready mix in the raw cacao and add your favourite toppings
Simple! And it only takes 5 minutes to prepare the night before so you can have a relaxing start to the day with a bowl of nourishing goodness, with no stress or rush!

Never mixed oat with courgettes before for breadfast! I usually mix fruits like Apples or berries. I will see how this will taste 🙂 I could send a Pic. on Instagram too. I’m new in this so a little unsure and excited at the same time.
Thanks Pixi.

It’s so great because you can’t taste the courgette at all 🙂 Let me know how it goes!

Looks delicious!
Probably silly questions but should cut the skin part off of the courgette first? And do you need to cook the courgette or just use it raw?
I’m defo gonna a give this a try 🙂
Pixie says
There’s no need to cut the skin off at all, you want to keep all the fibre! You can use it raw if soaking the oats overnight, or cook the courgette along with the oats to have it as a warm dish – it’s up to you!

Never heard of zoats before! Sounds and looks like they’re delicious though. Spotted what I think might be a typo on the quantities of milk, should 1250mL plant milk be 125ml? Is there anything bad about eating the liquid that comes out when you soak oats overnight? As when making oat milk the soak water is discarded. Perhaps it’s just not the consistency you want for milk, as it goes a little sticky.
Pixie says
Thanks for that, I’ve changed it now! Oh no you want all the liquid definitely, the beauty of zoats is that if you leave them overnight the next day they’re ready to grab and go without having to do anything else!

Can’t wait to try my zoats in the morning. I have them soaking right now.
