Hopefully your reaction to this is “yay amazing!” rather than “oh god not another one”. Although if you are thinking the latter I understand – the amount of bloggers and individuals in the wellness sphere writing books is getting a bit ridiculous.
I know everyone says it but this book is different and isn’t like anything else out there (the closest thing is probably Angry Chef’s amazing book). Let me explain why.
This book will be a blend of nutrition, myth debunking, and delicious recipes to put this information into action.
The book is divided into several chapters, each of which tackles a particular nutrition myth. So for example we have a chapter on gluten and gluten-free diets, a chapter on detoxing, a chapter on superfoods, and so on. I’ll being going in deep, with biochemistry, linguistics, and my usual pinch of snark and sarcasm. Everything will be explained in everyday language, with any necessary scientific jargon being explained and made accessible to everyone. At the end of every chapter, after the theory, there’ll be a series of recipes to help you put this information into practice.
Hopefully by the end you’ll have learnt something new, feel more knowledgeable and less worried about what you’re eating, and go out into the world as better BS detectors than before. Plus, hopefully armed with some delicious recipes that’ll make you smile.
I’ve made it my mission to debunk every bit of misinformation I’ve seen on social media, and make evidence-based nutrition interesting enough to stand up to the miracle cures and panaceas online. But social media and blogging can only do so much; this is the next step. This is me going mainstream!
The idea is that pretty much every piece of fearmongering BS you’ve seen on social media, the media, and even in books (I like flicking through wellness books I get sent and putting post-it notes in things I find that are wrong or fearmongering), everything will be analysed and refuted and explained. Either through in-depth analysis in a chapter, or through quick one-liners you can take away and use on the next mistaken family member or friend you come across.
In terms of the timeline, I don’t have an exact release date yet, but I’ll add it here and shout it from the rooftops as soon as I know. At the moment, I’m focusing on researching the chapters and writing the bulk of the text. July will be all about the recipe development and photography (I’m doing all the photography myself, eek). Then August I’ll be working on chemical diagrams, infographics, and piecing it together.
September it’ll go off to my editor and probably back and forth many times with edits and rewrites. There will also be meetings with the design team and so on, to get it all looking awesome, and I’m guessing I’ll need a lawyer to make sure I don’t get into trouble.
Throughout this time, I want to share a series of behind the scenes videos with you, to show you things like the taste testing, photography, design meetings, and cover reveal! So get excited!
If there’s any particular themes or topics you want me to cover, whether it’s something as huge as gluten-free diets, or something as small as coconut oil, please do let me know! I’m basing this on what I’ve seen on social media and the stupid articles I get tagged in on Twitter, so if you think there’s something I should see, send it my way!

I will absolutely get this when it’s out. I have IBS and a few (diagnosed at an actual pharmacy by an actual pharmacist) food intolerances. I hate explaining that wheat and gluten aren’t the same thing (yay gluten), that no I did not change my diet on a whim I did it because I was throwing up all the time, yes I still eat meat no I can’t eat birthday cake.
I’d love to read more on the actual science of it all, and have some evidence to wave at people. Best of luck with your book!

Amazing thank you so much! I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be to have your genuine diagnosed conditions trivialised by wellness wankers. Don’t worry, I’ve got a whole chapter on gluten so it’s all going to be in there!

I am so excited for this Pixie, it is exactly what we need! I am sure you will include this anyway, but TOXICITY! The misconceptions about toxins in the body and the use of cleanses and fasts is something that I find very worrying and dangerous. Would love to read some real science and language analysis on this.

Thank you so much! Oh don’t worry detox has a whole chapter to itself – that’s how much it annoys me haha!

Can’t wait for your book Pixie! It will be a refreshing change from all the usual stuff (and some rubbish) out there. Just what we need x
