This is a paid advertorial with Tesco, but always all opinions remain my own.
Finding someone to live with can be really hard. I’ve lived with some strange people as a student, so when I moved back to London after finishing uni I wanted to make sure I lived with someone I actually got on with – mainly someone who enjoyed food as much as me!
I love sharing food. I love cooking for people and seeing people’s eyes light up when they try something new. Eating with someone is quite an intimate, often messy process, and is a brilliant and easy way to get to know someone: just ask people about their favourite food and I guarantee it’ll start a long and easy conversation.
My flatmate enjoys food as much as me. Thank goodness! We often cook together, and if one of us has had a long day at work the other will often ensure that food is ready and waiting for them when they come home. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve had a craving and asked her to pick something up from Tesco Express on the way home. I firmly believe that part of the reason we’ve become such great friends (and ideal flatmates) in such a short space of time, is because of how we’ve shared food. We’ve hosted cheese and wine evenings, we’ve comforted each other with delicious homemade meals, and we’ve created weird and wonderful dishes from random leftovers.
Both of us eat mostly vegetarian food, as that’s what we prefer. Any vegetarian will know that going out to a restaurant, the veggie option is almost always a risotto, and not necessarily a good one at that. But there are great ones out there, I promise! I have an awesome one in my book (hint, go buy it!), and this amazing one from the Tesco Real Food website is incredible.
Go make it for someone you love, whether that’s a parent, partner, flatmate, or friend. Food is an amazing way to show someone that you care!
