Oh yes, it’s time to celebrate: it finally feels like summer and alcohol has come to the blog! Personally, I incorporate alcohol into my diet because (1) I like it, (2) it’s an integral part of my social life, and (3) I believe in balance. Not every day of course, but occasionally in the same way that I occasionally eat super indulgent sugary desserts (100% delicious, 0% guilt).
If, like me, you’re also aboard the balance train, and that train has an alcohol carriage (I’m very proud of this metaphor ok), then I think you might enjoy the smoothie cocktail. Cocktails can often contain sugar syrup and plenty of juice, but by converting my cocktails into smoothies with whole fruits they should be easier on the blood sugar levels whilst still tasting fabulous.
Expect more of these in the future; but first up a beautiful summer pairing: strawberries and gin.
Serves: 1 (just multiply up by however many you need)
Ingredients:
30mL gin
80g frozen strawberries
Juice from 1/2 fresh lime
200mL sugar free tonic water
Ice/more frozen strawberries
What to do:
- Add the gin, frozen strawberries, and lime to a blender and blend until smooth
- Add some ice cubes or frozen strawberries (avoids too much dilution if you drink slowly!) to a glass
- Pour the mixture into the glass, and top up with around 200mL of tonic water
- Serve immediately
